I have 3 or 4 navigations to choose with app mode. When internet connection is required for app mode, I easily turn on my WiFi Hotspot on the galaxy. So I use my old iPhone 4S as it's internet connection for app mode/movies and music player. However Pioneer dominates right now in terms of what you are looking for.

Before this I had the early versions of Pioneer which sucked, with a great Kenwood. I bought the top line Pioneer Z130 (of it's day), and loved the speed so much that I bought the Z140 for my other vehicle a few months later. If I had an iPhone I would definitely get it, except for the lack of a physical volume knob that is. It still won't have a good method for text entry, but Siri/voice control should make up for that, and early hands-on reviews I've read say that Siri works pretty well (for looking up addresses and starting navigation, searching and playing/controlling audio, etc.). The NEX probably won't get CarPlay for a few more months, but that seems to me the best option if you don't want to directly use your phone while in the car. I use the HU to stream audio, and so for me that works out pretty well. I use that to mount my phone and control it directly by hand.

For now, I don't think the technology is there and so I use a "proclip" mount for my Galaxy Note 3 (cost over $100 - yikes) which is easy to install using a suction cup mount on the flat part of the dash in front of the climate control/clock screen.

Then you would have two screens displaying the same thing which wouldn't really appeal to me much, unless the phone were mounted to the driver's left. Click to expand.I always wanted a HU that would simply act as a display for my phone, but the problem is that you either have to use the HU's screen to interact with it (and nowadays the screens are just not great touchscreens for doing this), or use your phone to navigate the phone while displaying it on the HU's screen.
